Poster Effects

One of the effects that I used when making my final poster was the text for the title. I'm using the same typeface for the title, tagline, release date and directors so I wanted it to stand out more and make it clear of what it is. To make my text effect, I duplicated my title text layer and changed the text colour to make it slightly lighter. I then moved the copy layer underneath the original and changed the angle of it ever so slightly, before changing the opacity of the copy layer to make it less visible. This gives the text look like it was hand drawn and that it still has constriction lines or the sketch version underneath, whilst it's still clean and easily legible.

I also used the gradient effect on my credit text part at the bottom, so it fades from the photo to the text. In my final version of the poster, I may not have this effect and use a different colour text with a transparent background instead of grey with a black background.

Final Poster

This is the final poster that I came up with. My animated characters stand out from the background, all through their colour schemes. The background has a more muted, warm colour scheme, whilst my characters both have brighter colours - one cool, one warm. I decided to do the text in just black and/or white as it stands out better against the background colours, it also doesn't clash with the characters in view as they both have black outlines/keylines and white features. My main reason for having two animated characters instead of using my photoshoot for one of them is because I thought that they would be more eye-catching that way, especially with the way that the original photos blend in with my background.

I personally think I could have made the shadows more realistic instead of just blurred blobs, such as using a second copy of the pose image but filled in blank edited so it was squashed and at a certain angle. I do, however, think that the opacity and blur of the shadows is accurate to how shadows work in real life. Some of my text isn't as visible as the rest, which makes me think that maybe I should have chosen a colour that stands out more, or duplicated the text layer as I did with the rest of the font (for some reason, this makes the text less transparent/brightens the colour). One thing that I think went well, however, was the image quality of my animated characters, as they were brought into Photoshop after being drawn on a separate program (Procreate on iOS). There are no out of place pixels and little blur, this all helps to make the characters actually look like they're in the setting rather than being edited in.
